MWSBE Launches Industry Roundups

06/06/2017

In order to create a greater demand for certified MWSBEs in the professional services as well as create member benefits for certified MWSBEs, staff will be initiating Industry Roundups in cooperation with the FAMU Small Business Development Center, the Big Bend Minority Chamber, and Career Source. This Roundup will be held on June 27, 2017. Roundups are activities that engage, educate, equip, and empower MWSBEs.

On May 11th-12th, OEV hosted a Landscaping Industry Roundup to educate certified MWSBE landscapers with Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) training in cooperation with the North Florida Safety Council. This certificate training qualified landscapers to secure procurement opportunities with the City of Tallahassee Office of Community Beautification. The training was made available to our certified MWSBEs at a 41% discount, from the original $220 to $130 with MWSBE certification.

Lawrence Parramore, a participant in the most recent Landscaping Industry Roundup, had the following to say about the training:

“The class helped me as a business owner and I am grateful to Mr. Darryl Jones and Mrs. Raffington for the opportunity to get this certification. It opened my mind to work crew and work zone safety. The training will qualify me for additional landscaping jobs.” – Lawrence Parramore, Lionheart Lawncare Solutions, LLC.
