Leon County SustainaBiz Program

Did you know that Leon County recently launched the SustainaBiz program? The program recognizes local businesses and organizations that have made great strides in implementing more sustainable business practices in the areas of energy, water, waste, community and employee engagement, and local economy.

This free program was launched in May and is open to any business or organization in Leon County. There are two criteria score sheets – one for bars and restaurants and one for office and retail businesses – and depending on the number of points earned your businesses will be recognized at the Bronze, Silver, or Gold level. Any group or organization with an office, including nonprofits or faith-based organizations, is eligible to be recognized through the office and retail score sheet.

Sustainable businesses benefit their community and the local economy while doing good for the environment. Getting recognized through SustainaBiz helps consumers know you do good business for our community, gives you a competitive advantage, and improves brand image. Additional benefits include short and long-term savings through increased efficiencies, conservation, and waste reduction. Recognized businesses receive a decal and certificate that can be proudly displayed at their business and will be promoted by the Office of Sustainability.

Some of the ways you can earn points towards recognition include conducting a free energy audit from the City of Tallahassee, taking part in the Leon County HazBiz program (which offers low-cost disposal of hazardous waste), providing recycling for customers and employees, and implementing a composting program. The Leon County Sustainability Team is here for you! With this program, we offer technical assistance and consulting on how you can make your business practices more sustainable. We hope you’ll reach out.
