Celebrating National Economic Development Week & Reflecting on OEV’s Impact in Tallahassee-Leon County

05/16/2025

This week marks National Economic Development Week, and the Tallahassee-Leon County Office of Economic Vitality (OEV) is proud to celebrate the partnerships, programs, and progress that move our community forward.

Since our founding in 2016, OEV has been committed to building a strong, inclusive, and resilient economy. Together with our community partners, we have generated over 17,000 jobs, supported more than 2,750 local businesses, and contributed to an annual economic impact of $430 million. These achievements are the result of deliberate and strategic actions and collaborative development.

Economic development is a team effort, and OEV plays a central role in connecting key players in Tallahassee-Leon County. We work closely with the City of Tallahassee, Leon County, private businesses, educational institutions, and community organizations to advance a shared vision of sustainable growth and inclusive prosperity. From aligning workforce training with industry needs to preparing investment sites and supporting entrepreneurs, OEV fosters collaboration across sectors to strengthen the local economy. Our community’s success relies on these partnerships, each contributing unique expertise and resources to ensure that Tallahassee-Leon County remains a vibrant, competitive, and opportunity-rich region.

OEV and community partners have forged a business-friendly environment that encourages long-term growth through targeted infrastructure investments and incentives for capital investment from the private sector. Our approach includes cultivating a collaborative ecosystem among local government, educational institutions, chambers of commerce, and industry leaders to align economic development efforts and maximize impact. This community-based model fosters shared ownership of economic success and ensures that all voices are represented in shaping our region’s future.

Another key aspect of our strategy is the certification of minority, women, and small business enterprises (MWSBEs). Certifying these businesses empowers them to participate in procurement opportunities with local governments and prime contractors. Certification opens doors to new contracts, promotes job creation, and builds capacity—allowing small businesses to scale and compete in broader markets. This not only strengthens our local economy but also ensures that economic opportunity is inclusive and accessible to all. By integrating certification into our economic development and workforce strategies, OEV is working to create a more equitable and thriving Tallahassee-Leon County.

As we celebrate this special week, we reflect on the power of economic development to uplift communities, drive innovation, and build a stronger future for everyone. Thank you to our partners, stakeholders, and residents who make this work possible every day—let’s continue to grow together!
