Director’s Message: Entrepreneurship Drives Economic Vitality

04/08/2021

From driving innovation to promoting social change, entrepreneurship plays a major role in the economy of our city, state, and nation. Entrepreneurship enhances economic growth, creates job opportunities, and enables new markets to be developed through the unique offerings of new goods and services. Great innovators have the ability to change the world for the better, which is why Tallahassee utilizes its world-class research centers, academic institutions, and impactful venture mentorship programs to help entrepreneurs leverage success.

In Florida’s Capital for Business, we celebrate new products and services created by innovators that can further economic vitality. Organizations like Domi Station, Innovation Park, the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship, the TCC Center for Innovation, Jim Moran College for Entrepreneurship at Florida State University – the only public college of entrepreneurship in the nation, are all located right here in Tallahassee-Leon County. This past year, Domi Station reported that they generated a total economic output of over $100 million since its inception; Innovation Park is currently designing the North Florida Innovation Lab, that will focus on helping hard science, high-tech companies pioneer new technologies; and the Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship announced they will be offering four master’s programs with its brand new Master of Science in Entrepreneurship (MSE) in Social and Sustainable Enterprises program this Fall.

Simply put, Tallahassee-Leon County is where ideas become a reality. With a thriving research community, Tallahassee is more than theoretical – progress in the community is being made to support innovation, and products are going to market.
