Innovation in Motion: Tallahassee-Leon County Hosts the 2025 Motor, Drive Systems & Magnetics Conference

02/21/2025

The 2025 Motor, Drive Systems & Magnetics (MDSM) Conference has officially wrapped up, and what an incredible event for Tallahassee-Leon County! From February 18–20, 2025, our community transformed into a global hub for innovation—attracting more than 260 industry leaders, innovators, and decision-makers to explore the latest advancements in magnetics, motor design, drive systems, and motion control technologies. Thirty-six organizations exhibited at the event, including firms like Danfoss Turbocor, Yunsheng USA, NICHIA Corporation, the Rare Earth Industry Association, Lake Shore Cryotronics, and Brockhaus Measurements.

A Showcase of Innovation and Collaboration

Over the three-day event, attendees experienced dynamic keynote presentations, technical workshops, and networking opportunities. The first day of the conference was dedicated to workshops and exclusive tours of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (MagLab). These tours provided a first-hand look at the unmatched research assets based in Tallahassee-Leon County, strengthening our reputation as a leader in advanced manufacturing and applied sciences.

One of the conference’s standout moments was when the City of Tallahassee and Florida State University unveiled the largest magnetically levitating sculpture in the world. The dynamic sculpture, affectionately nicknamed Maggie, was designed and built by FSU’s Master Craftsman Studio artists to celebrate our city’s 200-year history and designation as the Magnetic Capital of the World. It will become a traveling exhibit appearing in prominent locations throughout Tallahassee-Leon County.

Economic Impact

The conference’s impact extends beyond the event itself. MDSM 2025 brought hundreds of visitors to Tallahassee-Leon County, boosting our local economy through hotel stays, dining, transportation, and entertainment. More importantly, the event sparked new conversations, business opportunities, and potential investments that could shape the future of our region’s economic landscape.

Tallahassee Has Opportunity

As we reflect on MDSM 2025’s success, we’re filled with gratitude for everyone who made this event possible, from the conference organizers to the community partners who came together to make this vision a reality. Tallahassee-Leon County’s innovative spirit and collaborative drive were on full display, and we look forward to building on this momentum!
